The Doyennes

The Doyennes is a tribute to women who have shaped our cultural and intellectual consciousness. They have stood out as indisputable authorities in their fields—voices that have broken boundaries and expanded our understanding of what it means to be a woman. Their works transcend time, resonating within us as echoes of courage, intelligence, and creativity.

The series stems from a desire to reconcile two images of women: the historically subjugated—associated with service and representation—and the modern, self-reflective woman, with wit, humor, and independence. In the meeting between these two, a space of tension and realization emerges—between being property and owning one's integrity.

Each portrait figure carries a duality: heritage and freedom, vulnerability and strength. Together, they form a symbolic community—a choir of voices that continue to influence, inspire, and create.
