Why Miuccia?
Miuccia Prada came to the fashion industry from an academic background. She has a PhD in political science, was a member of the Italian Communist Party and was active in the women's movement in the 1970s. This progressive, feminist perspective is the foundation of her deconstructivist vision for what Prada should convey; intelligence, gender and power balance, distinctiveness and attractiveness. She loves the futuristic and unexpected. Miuccia Prada is also an art collector and owns a gallery for contemporary art.
According to herself, Miuccia is first and foremost a creator – but even more so a businesswoman. “Art is for expressing ideas and visions, mine is for selling.” Perhaps this explains why Miuccia Prada keeps such a low profile despite her world-renowned name. Through her artistic awareness, she has created a brand and a vision that conveys intellect, integrity, excitement and power.
