The composition is a staging with clear references to Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon. The five young girls are variations on Balthus' teenage figures, with hairstyles inspired by Fernand Léger. Gathered in a pattern in melon colors that could have been taken from Verner Panton and Marimekko. The retro-colored expression gives associations to girl groups of the 70s and 80s - but the scene is timeless. Young girls gather, explore friendship and rivalry, in a fragile balance just before the transition to adulthood.
