Les Demoiselles d'Artist

The composition is a staged scene with clear references to Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon. The five young girls are variations on Balthus' teenage figures, with hairstyles inspired by Fernand Léger. They are arranged in a melon-colored pattern that could have come from Verner Panton and Marimekko. The retro-colored expression evokes associations with girl gangs in the 70s and 80s – but the scene is timeless. Young girls gather, exploring friendship and rivalry, in a fragile balance just before the transition to adulthood.

Les Demoiselles d'Artist is about the world of art and the women who inhabit it – with a nod to Picasso's iconic work, but with its own, modern design language. The work balances figuration and abstraction in a composition full of feminine energy and presence.
