Inspired by the French Baroque painter Georges de la Tour (1593–1652), his theatrical gestures and gazes, this motif mirrors a postmodern condition where we are constantly staging ourselves.
The fortune tellers suggest a power play between the characters, and an enigmatic tension rests over the scene: What happens once the robbery is complete—who has actually fooled whom?
